Is life happening to us or is life responding to every thought vibration? The proverbial tree that falls in the forest may not make a sound if there is no one around to perceive it, but it will certainly create a vibration. I have always been interested in how the way we think and feel vibrates and encodes our reality. Depending on our level of consciousness, abstract things like time take on different experiences throughout the dimensional fabric. We have all had moments where time seems to stretch, quicken, slow down or reveal itself as nonlinear. We each have to ability to experience having all the time in the world. Mastering time begins with the awareness of the timelessness of the true reality. The promise of our future is granted through being born again in every moment with fresh new eyes, greater clarity, understanding and grace.
Throughout the universe, multiple possibilities and parallel versions of time and space are always in flux. The seeds of unmanifested potential ripen when the necessary conditions are present. This is similar to wave-particle duality in quantum physics, where the presence of the observer collapses the wave function. We, as consciousness, are the presence through which thought currents impress the fabric of the quantum field into experienced reality. We are constantly collapsing and materializing possibile timelines from a field of infinite future potentials. The dimension that holds all of these possibilities of past, present, future, known as the Akasha or the Book Of life, is a felt realm. We can access our ability to step into simultaneous parallel realities through the portals of choice points.
Human logical reasoning has the tendency to be based on memories of perceived past experiences more than these future possibilities. We often focus on what we do not want more than on what we would like to see created. Not recognizing this creates a time feedback loop where the future we manifest looks exactly like our past. We assume this version is the totality of reality. When you focus on problems you manifest more problems. When you focus on solutions you manifest infinite possibilities. Once you give your full focused deliberate energy to creating the new the old will become obsolete. Again, the akashic field is a felt realm not yet fully in the world of form. Our work, as wayshowers, is to tune in and be the conduit for a new vision.
When we are emotionally triggered, we are connecting to a core wound that is part of the program of our younger selves; This is a form of consciousness time travel. What if we could reverse this same effect and send healing to the past versions of ourselves? We could use present moment awareness to align with a different version of our past. The ability to do so would have substantial implications for the future version of our human experience. We would have access to greater outcomes for ourselves in every now moment. To take this a step further, what if we could request insight, guidance, solutions from the future version of ourselves? What if our higher self was actually our future self who has already worked through many of the challenges we are currently experiencing and has optimal information regarding better health, relationships, life choices and habits? We could use this awareness not only to shift our emotional state and the energy we are emitting at will, but to align with the spontaneous healing of our bodies.
I invite you to consider that our higher self(oversoul) is an aspect of us that exists outside of the linear time paradigm. Envision that the gateway for a consciousness shift exists and you can intentionally step through the doorway of the space-time continuum to access the knowing that we are multidimensional beings, living in multiple parallel realities. Meditate on the etheric and celestial aspects of us beyond the veil that have the innate ability to create and recreate our future body-mind matrix. Those of us who are here as volunteer souls have projected an aspect of our consciousness back in linear time in order to assist with planetary ascension. We have done this process many times before. The joy for us is in the wonder of how we will do it differently each time. We receive guidance and direction as dreams, visions and downloads directly from our Oversoul.
The infinite part of you already has a much broader perspective of time. It recognizes that in other dimensions, time is not linear but rather confluent. This means individualized soul fractals will continue to revisit particular lessons in order to complete and embody. In this play we will find ourselves in the same energy dynamics, meeting the same characters in linear time, in new forms. We will continue to explore this karmic wheel until we learn to respond with presence and awareness rather than react through our emotional triggers and programming. We have the option to revisit these complex soul lessons in this infinity loop time model from a higher perspective and to solve the problem, interrupt unconscious reactions, neutralize the limitation patterns and delete outdated software. We can begin to go beyond the grooves in the neural pathways of what we remember. We have ability to create from the zero point field.
The human soul is the holographic replica of our consciousness. The human brain does not generate this consciousness, it simply interprets it. The linear time model is kept in place by our beliefs and repetitive thought currents. In other words, accessing other dimensional aspects of ourselves that exist outside of time can not be done through the human mind. It is however possible through presence, awareness and by utilizing the hearts energy field as a transmitter and receiver for constant feedback about what we are creating. It’s where we are in the Now moment that connects the human heart grid across space, time and dimension. It is there that we exist as all that is, which includes everything we were and all that we will be. Omnipresently both being and becoming.
For the mystic, it is understood that the dream field shapes itself to match the dreamer. We are the dreamers of this real-time dream. And the future can begin at any time in this dream. This is about so much more than changing beliefs; it’s about transcending duality and the old belief system about time. This means we are this unique aspect of the source creation and we are All That Is. We are one with the One, as one. When we fully embrace these Both/And paradoxes our holographic reality restructures itself to align with this new information. We reside in the place where both yes and no are true and change the very template of our DNA blueprint.
Those who follow the stars and the signs of the heavens know that the splitting of the world has been not only prophesied, but summoned. As we ascend and remove the veils, we awaken. We recognize that part of the collective agreement was to experience amnesia and forget our divine mission. Yet this period of time has always been destined. The knowledge of this has been passed down in the cellular memory through incarnational lines. There is no book for this because we are writing it now. We have left ourselves many hints along the way. The sacred texts have been left by time travelers from the ancient future with cosmic triggers of remembering. The truth about time is that we are our own ancestors who are waking up with memories of our future lives. This is the metaphysical moment when magic and miracles happen. It’s already done.
Ive always said, we all dream, its simply that we do not necessarily always remember them. Setting the intention to have and remember a dream is one of the single most impactful practices that can be used to create more frequent dream recall. There may be a few of you that have actually been able to create the Lucid dream experience, the state of being aware that you are dreaming, while you are still within the dream. A few weeks ago I focused on some simple techniques for actually becoming lucid within the dream. This week I would like to focus on some of the things that you are able to do when you actually do find yourself awake in your dream.
There are many theories about what the dream realm actually is. Many believe that it is simply the subconscious mind; it is a microcosm of you. In that case, everyone or everything you encounter in the dream is somehow a creation from your mind. There are others who would argue that dreaming is part of the collective mind, meaning you are connecting to others in your dreams. Nevertheless, the experiences that you have when you are in the dream realm will help shape your own point of view.
Again, creating the intention about what you wish to happen in the dream is crucial. Recite your chosen goal in your mind before sleep. When lucid, repeat the phrase often “I’m dreaming.” These two simple tricks combined can have a considerable impact on your dream life. Its important to learn how to maintain the lucid state. Sometimes in the beginning, you may get so excited to realize that you are awake in the dream, that you startle yourself awake. Try to focus on something very ordinary in the dream if you feel this happening. The other thing is sometimes you may only be half lucid, at which time the dream may be very hazy yet you have an awareness that you are waking up inside of your own dream. If this happens ask for clarity immediately and affirm “I’m dreaming.” There is much more fun to be had in lucid dreams I’m going to suggest a few ideas to you now.
One of the simplest and most obvious things that you might do within the dream is to create every detail of your ultimate happy place; a positive environment where you can go at any time, during waking life, lucid dreams and meditation. You have no limitations in this realm so your imagination can do anything you like. You can fill in magical landscapes with fantastic colors. You can build huge skyscrapers as tall as the moon. Just manipulating the environment all around you is so much fun. Discover your telekinetic power to shape and manipulate water. Create magnificent water sculptures. Play around with manipulating objects.
Once you have created the ideal scenery you probably want to test your powers to move around. The good news is that again there are no limitations. Obviously everyone in the dream realm at some point will leap off tall buildings and practice flying. Fly up to cloud level and observe the world below. The rules of gravity do not apply here. If you think yourself in a specific place you will instantly be there. This is the land of your unconscious mind. You get to create a world and then fly up into the sky and stand back to admire your vision. Its surreal. The next thing that is beneficial to do in your dreams is to interact with dream figures. You will come in contact with figures and you might want to ask them who they are. Sometimes when you meet someone in your dream, they will acknowledge that, yes they are a part of your mind and your creation. You will run into people who say that they are an abandoned part of you. I have had dark figures in my dream who I spoke with, only to learn that they were aspects of myself that were suppressed in my subconscious, who wanted to be integrated back into my conscious awareness.
I have felt new gifts and creativity emerge or found that challenges just work themselves out after I have had these types of dreams. Other times I have spoken to figures and they have let me know that they were not a part of my subconscious and that I was the one who was in their dream. Sometimes I have encountered people in the dream that I know were not asleep at that time. One theory to explain this is that there is a part of us that is always in the dream world. In general, I like to ask other dream characters questions that are on my mind. The answers that I get are always interesting and insightful. Often in the dream I will go to a beautiful garden and and specifically meet up with spirit guides, angels or deities. Or I will even interact with the deceased. If you chose to experiment with this, I would ask them if they have anything important they want to tell you.
Mutual dreams are when two people have the same dream. This is a state of dream telepathy Mutual dreams can be planned where two people actively work toward achieving one dream scenario. It is a way to improve communication and build trust. Mutual dreams can also be spontaneous. You find out that a friend, a significant other, faraway relative, or someone has had the same dream on the same night as you. Not much study has gone into the phenomenon of mutual dreams, but these are more likely to be a possibility when there is a very strong bond that exist between these two people. I have tried to practice this technique but have not yet been successful.
Another very well known thing that you can do in the dream is to experiment with dream healing. This is a beautiful method for connecting with aspects of your body that may need specific support and you have not had any clarity around how to treat them. I have had solutions presented to me for healing very often in these types of dreams. Focus on the part of your mind or body that you want to fix. Experience that improvement in the dream world. Take note to how this translates in the waking world.
I have also read that healing for others can be done using this method. Meaning just as you could send loving and healing energy to someone in the waking world, you can also do the same in the dream world. If we all learned these methods imagine the difference this would make in our ability to become more self sufficient. We would all be able to awaken our bodies innate ability to heal itself. Your body is able to communicate to your mind through dreams. The dreams can alert you that something is not quite right with your body even before any physical symptoms show up. Dreams of this nature may provide you also with valuable insight for action to take once you are awake.
There are so many more ways to explore the dream realm. One that might not be obvious is just simply allow the dream to take you on an adventure, without attempting to control any aspect of it whatsoever. Simply remain lucid and open. This can be a beautiful journey where you are simply going with the flow. I hope these methods and ideas have inspired you to look more deeply into a world that many have written off as simply not worth exploring. Many of the greatest discoveries of our time came first in the form of a dream. As Edgar Cayce said, dreams are today’s answers to tomorrows questions.
“People think dreams aren’t real just because they aren’t made of matter, of particles. Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories
Ancient symbols and signsScience is only now beginning to understand that dreams have a purpose. Dreams have been responsible for several noble prizes, scientific inventions and other great bodies of work. In more recent years, sleep scientists have began to study dream states closely, to examine how the mind and the body work during sleep. They measured the brain waves of people during sleep and found that the brain shifts between different cycles, some of which appear to be functioning exactly the same as when we are awake. One of the features of this state, is that the muscles in the body are absolutely calm and unresponsive, while the brain is in a highly active state. Why would Mother Nature create this state of being, where the mind is extremely activate, the body is paralyzed; yet we get to observe all of the images that are being created.
I don’t know anyone who isn’t fascinated by dreams. People intuitively know that their dreams have meaning. We all love to share the stories of the seemingly random and bizarre events that occur in our minds while we are asleep. But where do these visions come from and more importantly how do we determine the relevance that they have on our day to day lives. Lets examine several different theories, dating back to Ancient Egypt, in order to get a better understand on the various ways that dream work can be utilized.
Dream interpretation is the process of assigning meaning to dreams. In many ancient societies, dreaming was considered a supernatural communication or a means of divine intervention, whose message could be unraveled by people with certain powers. In modern times, various psychologist have offered their own theories about the meaning and purpose of dreams as an examination of the unconscious. My own personal take on dreams is a combination of all of the above. I believe dreams can be highly prophetic and full of insight and at the same time meaningless and trite. I believe dreams manifest for infinite reasons, similar to the way that we have thousands of thoughts passing through our minds throughout the day when we are awake.
One of the earliest recorded collection of dream symbols, used for interpreting dreams, was an Egyptian papyrus text. It displayed images which were a reflection of the belief that a god named Bes was responsible for dreams. The Ancient Egyptians saw dreams as omens, prophecies, and warnings. They had specific priests called, the Masters of the Secret Things, who were very knowledgeable in the teachings of The Book of the Dead. And they believed that often Gods would visit them in their dreams.
Ancient Egyptians held the belief that in dreams our eyes were open. This may have been a reflection of the fact that during the later hours of the night, when dreaming is frequent, this is the time when the pineal gland is most active. Their word for dream, rswt, is connected to the root meaning, to be awake and was represented with a symbol of an open eye. The Egyptians had many advanced practices used by seers for remote viewing, shape shifting, bending time/space, and exploring the afterlife and multiple dimensions. All rightful kings must be initiated into these practices for conscious dream travel between worlds.
For psychologists, dreams are considered a way of communicating with the unconscious. Like his teacher Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung believed that dream images reveal something about yourself, your relationships with others, and situations in your waking life. In working with his clients, Jung placed more confidence on the meaning and interpretation that was given by the dreamer themselves. He felt that we all possessed the necessary tools to interpret and unlock the cryptic messages in our dreams. He practiced this by encouraging the clients to speak openly about whatever was going on in their lives. The meaning then would be based on personal judgment and whatever interpretation felt right to the dreamer.
There is a significant difference between a symbol and a sign in Jung’s view. A sign merely points to something. For instance, a red stop-light points to the idea that we should stop our car; the green light points to the idea that we should go. “These lights are not symbols, because a symbol, “according to Jung, “is a term, a name, or even a picture that may be familiar in daily life, yet that possesses specific connotations in addition to its conventional and obvious meaning. It implies something vague, unknown, or hidden from us.”
Jung developed a theory which claimed that, when there is an imbalance between the conscious and unconscious minds, a neurosis occurs. This is considered to be a fragmentation of the personality, in the sense that the psyche is split into two opposing energies which refuse to be reconciled. As compensation for the imbalance, the psyche will attempt to balance itself by providing clues, or possible solutions to the problem through dreams. Jung’s work proved that if the dreamer can understand and apply what the dream is saying, the imbalance will be corrected. He offered many case studies where dreams would give him an idea of the problem of a particular individual, and how to proceed with treatment. He claimed to help many of his patients in this manner.
So far we have discussed individual dream yet sometimes, a collective dream, may appear, which contains symbolism that is relevant to a specific homogenous group or perhaps even the entire human population. Jung once visited a tribe called the Elgoni in East Africa. They told him they distinguished between big dreams and little dreams. Jung described the former as collective dreams, which arise from the collective unconscious; the latter to personal dreams, emanating from the personal unconscious. Collective dreams contain symbols which are common to all human beings. For example the idea of a common myth or archetypes might commonly manifest in these types of dreams. We can plainly see there are striking similarities between the religious mythologies of different races and cultures, even between those which are separated by thousands of miles of ocean, Jung believed that these shared narratives were accessible to individuals through the use of dream work.
When examining symbols and signs that come up within the dream its imperative to look for ideas that are recurring. Its also very important to record any feelings or emotions that come up within the dream. For example, I had a dream last night that half of my hair was falling out. Typically hair in a dream is associated with vitality, youth, or life force. Losing ones hair might symbolize a loss or a fear of loss of someones vital energy. However, by utilizing Jung’s dream interpretation methods, observing my feelings and emotions, and examining my own waking life, I came up with an different meaning. In the dream, as soon as I noticed that my hair was falling out, I grabbed a pair of scissors and gave myself an asymmetrical haircut. Then I stood in the mirror for a few minutes after admiring how great it looked. My own interpretation of the dream was that yes, challenges are coming up in my life, but that I am listening to my intuition and responding quickly by taking inspired action. And that is certainly how I feel about my life at the moment. I hope these ideas help you when examining the content and the meaning behind your own dreams. Enjoy.
We will continue to build on some of the basic principles that we put into place in the last week. The focus up until now in your practice should have been on creating the right setting for a night of dreaming. Hopefully with continued practice of the ideas shared last week you have started to have more frequent, vivid dreams and more dream recall. When I fully commit to this practice and do all of the steps needed to raise my vibration I can often have up to 5 dreams a night.
I also suggested last week, that you start to write down any details from in the dream and any feelings or emotions that come up for you, in a dream journal. These are all key symbols that will help you understand the messages that are coming to you as well as distinguishing what the origin of the communication is. Next week we will focus on the symbolism that comes up within the dreams and how to interpret the messages that come through to you. We will identify ways to discover if you are engaging with your subconscious, your higher self, experiencing past lives, hypnagogia or other common occurrences in the dream realm.
This week I would like to focus on some techniques for actually becoming lucid within the dream. There are many methods that can be utilized but I am focusing on those that resonated most with me and that I have personally had the most success with. Not all of these methods work for everyone so feel free to focus on what intuitively feels right for you.
Just to give some context, we all know those people who say they never dream. This is simply not the case, everyone dreams. Laboratory studies have shown that we experience our most vivid dreams during a type of sleep called Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. During REM sleep the brain is very active, the eyes move back and forth rapidly under the lids, and the large muscles of the body are relaxed. An interesting correlation has been found between those people who tend to respond more easily to sound when they are asleep and wake up more frequently with those who have more dream recall. I always joked about how I slept so lightly that I could literally hear a mouse moving around(true story). This end up being a blessing for me in terms of dream recall. In other words, those of us who are light sleepers, also have the tendency to remember more of our dreams. This is not to worry, those who sleep heavily can simply set alarms to wake up throughout the night, in order to increase the opportunity for the brain wave needed to stimulate dream recall, More on this later.
The first technique for Lucid dreaming is done through Suggestion. This is what we have set up the groundwork for last week by beginning to set the intention that you are going to have and remember your dream. You will be taking this suggestion one step further by setting the intention to become conscious within the dream.
Clear your mind. Relax.
Repeat to yourself the following: Tonight in my dreams, I will realize I am dreaming and become consciously aware.
You can also fill in the blank with a sign or omen which is either common and unusual in your dreams. This serves as a trigger for you to be aware that you are in a dream. For example, if you have a friend who frequently appears in your dreams you would use the suggestion: Tonight in my dreams, when I see ___________ (friend) I will realize I am dreaming and become consciously aware.
Self hypnosis is another powerful way to incubate lucid dreams. I would group this in with Suggestion technique. Like meditation, it draws on the same relaxation response that helps calm your body, reduce stress hormones, and focus your mind on affirmative thoughts.
However, hypnotizing yourself is different from meditation because it uses auto suggestions to plant specific thoughts and affirmations. As mentioned above the technique of using the suggestions before going to sleep in this way, you can essentially hypnotize yourself to improve your recall, program your dreams and increase your self awareness, teaching you to habitually recognize when you’re dreaming and thereby trigger lucidity.
Carlos Castaneda Technique: Finding your Hands
Using the Carlos Castaneda approach consistently each night before sleep is how I had my first lucid dream that wasn’t by accident. I believe it works by establishing a stimulus-response link. Practicing repeatedly develops the association between the stimulus (your hands) and the response (This is a dream). This method is discussed in the book The Art of Dreaming.
If you are not familiar with the work of Carlos Castaneda he was an American writer and anthropologist who wrote a series of books that described his training in shamanism, particularly a group that he called the Toltecs. His primary teacher was a sorcerer named Don Juan. He wrote, “Dreaming is the vehicle that brings dreamers to this world, and everything sorcerers know about dreaming was taught to them by us. Our world is connected to yours by a door called dreams. We know how to go through that door, but men don’t. They have to learn it.”
Sit in your bed, and become mentally relaxed. Stare softly at the palm of your hands, and tell yourself, “Tonight while I am dreaming, I will see my hands and realize that I am dreaming.” Continue to softly look at your hands and mentally repeat the affirmation, “Tonight while I am dreaming, I will see my hands and realize that I am dreaming.” Allow your eyes to cross and unfocus. Remain at peace and continue to repeat slowly. After about five minutes or once you feel too sleepy, end the practice. When you wake up in the middle of the night, gently recall your intention to see your hands and realize that you are dreaming. At some point in a dream, suddenly your hands will pop up in front of you and you will instantly make the connection, that this is a dream. Try to stay calm, now you can begin to explore the dream realm.
Stephen LaBerge’s MILD Technique
MILD stands for Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams or “Mnemonically Induced Lucid Dream”. This technique makes use of your ability to recall your intentions in the future (prospective memory), making you more likely to remember to question your dream state. Over time, as your prospective memory improves, you’ll notice more consistent results, not only in achieving lucidity, but also in remembering actions and plans you have for your dream adventures, and even having an easier time remembering to wake up in the middle of the night. Dr. Steven LaBerge created this technique and wrote about it in his book, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. Since he first wrote about this technique lucid dreamers have developed several variations.
Get into the practice of memorizing your last dream in detail.
When you spontaneously wake up at night or with an alarm simply, lie in bed and recall the last dream in detail. You’ll want to take some time to recall your dream and imagining it with you lucid.
LaBerge suggests that you take your recalled dream and clearly imagine that you have become lucid at an appropriate point.
Visualize yourself becoming aware in the remembered dream.
Next, intend to become lucid in the next dream by suggesting, “Next time I’m dreaming, I want to recognize I’m dreaming”
Do the above until you feel determined. Expect to become lucid and aware in your next dream as you fall back asleep.
LaBerge also recommended that lucid dreamers conduct a reality check to verify that they were dreaming. A reality check could be something as simple as levitating or flying. If you can do these actions in the dream state, then obviously it is a dream.
Paul Tholey’s Lucid Mindset
Paul Tholey developed an idea to achieve awareness in dreams,“If one develops a critical frame of mind towards the state of consciousness during the waking state, by asking oneself whether one is dreaming or awake, this attitude will be transferred to the dreaming state. It is then possible through the occurrence of unusual experiences to recognize that one is dreaming.”
The Technique :
Throughout the day when confronted with an odd event, ask yourself, am I dreaming or not? Then ask, how do I know?
Make it an everyday practice to do this reality check. One common one is to try to levitate.
Eventually, this may transfer over to your dream state and when you wonder, am I dreaming and do your reality check, you will find yourself levitating, and realize that you are in fact in a dream.
Nap to Lucidity Technique
This is one of the techniques that I have the most consistent success with. Many lucid dreamers (and confirmed by the Lucidity Institute), the Nap to Lucidity Technique significantly increases the probability of a lucid dream.
Wake about 90 minutes before your normal waking time.
Spend the next 90 minutes reading or thinking about lucid dreaming, then return to sleep with the intent to become lucid.
This is also the best time to utilize the aid of the lucid dreaming pills that you received for those who purchased the kit.
I have also had much success with waking up at 4–6 am specifically. Many spiritual teachings claim that the period between 4 and 6 am is the best time to for lucidity, creativity, meditation. This is because this is the time that the pineal gland is most active(more on this in future workshops) In addition, there are several brain entrainment audios avaiable online and for purhase that can be utilized as this time to assist with stepping into your dreams consciously. I also recommend usng any type of herbs or supplements that help with brain function as this increases the presence of serotonin. Like with all things, for some people lucid dreaming will require much practice and persistence. For others they will be able to achieve the desired results with very little effort. So try to do one of the above practices consistently.
Also, consider what you might like to do in a lucid dream. If this is your first lucid dream, remember not to get too excited once you become lucid, since this normally will wake you up. If you start getting excited look at your hands or the ground or focus on something boring in the lucid dream to stabilize it. We will talk much more about some of the things that you can do once you have become lucid within the dream in upcoming weeks. Have lots of fun. And good luck with all of these techniques.
Has there ever been a time when you couldn’t tell the difference between being awake and dreaming? This experience usually comes along when you’re just starting to wake up or when you’re starting to fall asleep. These two periods are transitional and you can often experience altered states of perception, hallucination or dreams during this time. This state of mind offers you an opportunity to experience your self without judgement, pre-conceived ideas, unconscious programming, ego or useless mind chatter. You can access an open channel to connect with the source of pure inspiration through the imagination. If you can envision it, then it is real. It is when we are fully awake that we go back into the programs that make it possible to function in the capacity that is demanded of us in our current cultural society. These programs unfortunately keep the mind full of doubt and misunderstanding about the true nature of reality and who we really are.
In ancient times, we honored the dream realm as an opportunity for healing, creativity, and rejuvenation of our body, mind and spirit. We used this time to delve deeply into communication with our ancestors, angels, spirit guides and with Source. We understood that our dreams could provide answers and support for the work that we came here to do, information that the logical thinking simply can not access. During sleep when the conscious mind is asleep, the subconscious can be approached directly in order to communicate directly with the higher self and the universal mind. You can gain insight into questions about the souls purpose, the Akashic records which is the history is who each of us is and who we have been since the very beginning of creation, we can gain access to our gifts and talents, we can also connect to those spirits who are journeying along side of us assisting fulfill our divine purpose. These are just some of the many reasons that cultivating a practice of dream work is an essential part of any spiritual path.
So what is Lucid Dreaming? Lucid Dreaming is the art of becoming more conscious during the dream. When we are dreaming and realize that we are in fact conscious within a dream we have a unique opportunity to interact with the dream with purpose. Lucid dreaming is truly one of the most amazing experiences and that is why I chose to share it. To look around in your dream and know that everything you see is an imaginary realm is something that will forever alter the way that you perceive reality. Especially because it often feels more real than waking life. Colors are more vivid, perception is clearer and emotions are so strongly that they can literally lift you off your feet. People from hundreds of cultures have been using lucid dreaming for thousands of years for all sorts of purposes, including out-of-body travel, shamanic healing, communication with plants and animals, finding answers to dilemmas and solutions to problems, dissolving the self, and exploring the mythic realm for self-knowledge.
In the dream realm your world is instantly what you make it. Once you experience it there, it makes it easier to translate the concept that, we create the universe with our thoughts, in the waking world as well. You will get the opportunity to see how powerful your mind is. In Lucid Dreaming where you place your focus is where you are transported to instantly. There is no delay in time/space. Mind has control over matter. You can conjure up whatever you want if the intention is strong enough. The way to become Lucid in the dream first in foremost is through intention.
Its important to set the intention in place before going to sleep that you are planning to have a dream, remember the dream, realize that you are dreaming and that you will become conscious while still in the dream. Often times at first you may come across the experience that you become aware that you are dreaming and then you wake yourself up. Thats totally normal step while becoming initiated into dream work. If you are someone who does not remember your dreams at all then you will begin there. Set your intentions before bed simply that you will remember your dreams. Keeping in mind that everyone does in fact dream, its just that not all of us remember. Its important when you wake up to immediately write your dreams down in a journal. Not only will this help you examine the nature of the symbols and signs of your dreams but it will also encourage you to remember more of them and in more detail.
Not every dream will be Lucid. Nor should this be the goal. Every dream contains valuable information that gives insight into the layers of your consciousness. In fact the deeper that you go into the dream states the more likely you will at some point access what Carl Jung refers to as the collective Unconscious. This is an aspect of the Universal Mind that we are all connected to. This is where all of our hidden ideas, desires, visions, all reside. Often as you develop a strong practice of dreamwork you will begin to see patterns forming of certain archetypal figures and experiences. We will get more into this later. Since dreams are a way of communicating with the unconscious, Jung believed that dream images reveal something about yourself, your relationships with others, and situations in your waking life. By simply discussing what is currently going on in your life, it can help you interpret and unlock the cryptic images of your dreams. Jung’s method of dream interpretation was that the meaning of the dreams was a personal judgement and is up to the dreamer to interpret. Whatever interpretation of your dreams feels right to you is most significant.
Aside from the intention of planning to remember your dreams, getting enough sleep is another crucial part of having a successful night of dreaming. A full 8 hours is ideal. In preparation for a night of dream work, ideally you would plan to go to bed early. I usually prepare a bath with some herbs that I know will be calming for the mind as well as the spirit. I will drink some herbal tea that I know will relax my mind in preparation for a peaceful sleep. Ginseng is a favorite for me. If you have the opportunity to work out later in the evening this is another great way to prepare yourself for the best possible nights sleep. My dreaming ritual also consists of burning incense before I go to sleep. I prefer Frankincense to burn while preparing the space. This scent is one of the highest vibrating and I use to regularly for meditation and for dream ceremony.
I also at this time will play some brain entrainment audio sounds, delta theta pure tones, Solfeggio frequencies, or binaural beats. If you have sound therapy tools such as tuning forks or tibetan bowls now is also a perfect time to utilize these as well. Sound is the purest form of energy. Anything that will help assist you in creating a relaxed and peaceful state of mind is ideal. You can also create a dream herbs satchel which you can either place this under your pillow or you are also welcome to dress you bed, underneath your sheets or along the perimeters of where you chose to sleep with the herbs. One of the main ingredients used to create the satchel can be Mugwort. It has been used for centuries to help promote dreaming. Some chose to drink the herb or even smoke it. But from my experience it is best utilized to dress the sleep area.
Getting comfortable writing and recording your dreams. And beginning to start to look for patterns in your dreams that correspond with your waking life. You should write down a specific question that you have before going to sleep. Throughout the night as you wake up begin to write down any thoughts that come directly to mind as you ask yourself the question. Often in this in between state the higher self is more easily able to communicate with us directly because our guard is down. The more that you wake up during the night, ironically the more dreams you are able to remember. Create an affirmation of mantra that you will use every night before you go to sleep that you can use to program your intention for this dream work. Several days of these simple steps will create the foundation for the deeper work that we will be doing.. Enjoy your sleep and sweet dreams
We all have had experiences where for some reason or another we get a hunch, gut feeling, or some type of insight that comes to us in the moment. That insight might tell us to leave a certain place, it may tell us to turn right instead of turning left. We may get the hunch that someone isn’t telling the truth or we get the sense that something just isn’t right. There’s also that feeling one gets when first hearing about something or someone, or the first impression when we meet someone new. These are all simply what is referred to as our Intuition.
Intuition is our sixth sense. It is the ability to synthesize and deduce insight from all of our accumulated experiences. Meaning we “know” much more than we realize. It is through the perception of our other five senses that we are able to tune in to our intuition. Those who pay attention, will find that our intuition is always available. In fact, the information shared with us through intuition is more accurate then information picked up with the other five senses. The nature of our physical reality is that often what we see, taste, smell, hear and touch is based primarily on perception. Intuition however is based on energy, it is connected to the Unified Field, which is a field or web consciousness. Therefore intuition works with vibration and frequency. It is Resonance, a recognition of truth based on how it feels. Every cell in the body is vibrating with recognition. It is when the left brain and the right brain are both working and body consciousness is turned on. It is holistic inner-connected way of knowing.
So where does intuition come from?
Intuition comes to us directly from our soul, also known as the higher self. When we chose to incarnate into a physical body, a very small portion of our divine essence (soul) is present within this physical form. The higher self is an omniscient source of intelligence. It has not forgotten the truth of who we each are, through all of our lifetimes. Therefore is serves to guide us through each step of our journey. The higher self will use every means possible to communicate the best path for us to take in order to complete our soul’s purpose. Aside from dreams, signs and omens, one of the primary ways the higher self will communicate with us is through our intuition. It is this direct knowing that comes in the present moment when mind, body, and spirit our in alignment. The higher self is you except it exists on the spiritual plane. Meaning it has not been distracted by all of the illusions that exist in the physical dualistic reality of the third dimensional plane that we(the incarnate self) exist on. The higher self continues to offer information and insight to guide us towards fulfilling our destiny and directing us away from the ego trappings of fear and self-delusion.
Why can’t we hear always hear our intuition?
Many of us may have gone through our lives feeling very alone and perhaps powerless. This is because the paradigm we have been living in was based on fear and separation. We are leaving this Age of Disinformation and entering into the Age of Intuition. This process requires letting go of that which does not serve our evolution. Literally we are being asked to lighten up. This allows us to raise our vibration. More and more we are being bombarded with media propaganda, technology, environmental toxins, and free radicals. All of this creates fragmentation of the mind, body, spirit harmony. We are also slowly waking up from the collective amnesia that comes through cultural and ancestral programming. Often this attachment to who we are, that is based on self-identity can block the free flow of soul. We may have been programmed to believe that life just happens to us. That we do not have choice or agency. Many of us have felt oppressed or victimized. All of these beliefs, charged with emotion keep us stuck in old patterns. If not healed they create energy blocks.
The beauty of this time is that we are going through an acceleration of human consciousness. This means that many of us are experiencing what feels like time speeding up. This is because the present moment is taking over. No longer will we have to identify with our “past”. We will learn that all choice to be who we are, is available in the present moment and will be communicated to us from the higher realms, through our intuition. We will return to choice. We will begin to listen to the gentle nudges that we receive before they turn into full blown life shattering events (which is what happens when we ignore our higher self). We will feel lucky and know that life can be experienced with a great sense of joy, peace and ease. We will receive accurate information in the present moment. And we will receive exactly what we need to know. We will trust and act on this information because we will know that it is directing us towards our highest good. Healing will happen faster. A true sense of empowerment comes from listening to our intuition. We will be able to ask for what we need and know that the universe will provide for us in abundance. We will still experience contrast. Contrast is what creates expansion in the universe. But contrast wont feel like a contraction. It will feel like an opportunity to express more of our truth and what we have mastered. This all truly comes from developing and tuning into intuition as our primary teacher.
I will guide you through these next few weeks with tips and techniques for awakening your intuition and connecting to the Higher Self.
The homework for this week:
Learning how to be in alignment with your higher self is key for receiving intuition. This week we will begin to practice learning how to access what I call your Home Frequency. This is the feeling that one gets when you are being your most authentic self. It comes to you from doing what you love, also known as following your bliss. Because intuition is not something that can be experienced through the five senses, if you are someone who has not been in the practice of feeling and sensing energy this is the perfect place to start.
First you will set the intention that you are going to connect to your infinite, divine, Higher Self. You can state this intention out loud or silently. Make sure to use language that works for your belief system. If you are not comfortable with the term higher self please substitute with inner voice, inner teacher or something that resonates. You are simply going to for five minutes a day (preferably morning) meditate of what your home frequency feels like. Bring all of the positive emotions available with you into this practice. You may reflect on a person that feels like home, a smell, something you love to eat. Anything that gives you those feelings of pure joy and divine presence. Notice all of the sensations that come up. This practice of turning inward not only will strengthen your intuition, but with time, will allow you to access deeper levels of mind, creativity, love and healing. All of these are gifts from the higher self.
I have always known for as long as I can remember that there was a presence around me. It existed at that time as such an integral part of my subjective experience, that I never questioned its validity. It was that presence that always sent me impulses, nudges, inspiration, insight and the guidance by which I chose to move through my every day experiences. It was that presence that often told to me pick up the phone before it would even ring. In fact it would often tell me who was going to be calling. And when I say “tell” what I mean by that is somewhat misleading. This communication never happened with any language other than the subtle knowing that I would receive.
This presence loved to guide me through the massive forest that sat directly behind my back door during chlidhood. We would go on adventures to find treasures, eat berries, catch turtles, and even find secret pathways that led me through to the other side of my little neighborhood. Each time the path would be different but it never mattered because I trusted that I was being “guided”. I can’t remember what age I realized that not everyone has invisible friends. Eventually it became more appealing, as a very shy reclusive child, to play with my “real” flesh and blood friends. I abandoned my relationship with what I later came to know as my guides and guardian angel without even understanding who they were. Like so many other children with psychic gifts I eventually grew up and decided that it had all been in my imagination
There are times now that when I look back and I’m aware that this presence never left my side. It (they) have always been there with unconditional love and support despite my lack of acknowledgment or conscious participation. It was only when I began my commitment to my spiritual path that I again opened up the channel consciously to the relationship between myself and my Spirit guides. What a beautiful and joyous life it has become thanks to them.
What is Spirit Guidance?
Spirit guidance is direct contact with nonphysical energies that exist in the spirit realm who are able to offer you wisdom beyond your five senses. Everyone has a spirit guide (or several spirit guides), and each of us has the ability to listen to them. They communicate with us in a variety of ways that we must become aware of because they are at a higher frequency. We have to be very still, silent, open and accepting. Spirits Guides, Angels, Deceased loved ones, Totem Animals, elementals, God(desses) are always near connecting with us. Many of us experienced a deepening of our supernatural and spiritual gifts over this past year and what came through so clearly is our ability to communicate with beings in the subtle realms. The veil is thinner than ever. Given the nature of the mass spiritual awakening that is happening throughout the Earth now is an amazing time to develop that intimate relationship with the Spirit Realm.
Those in Spirit, even without physical bodies, still have energy bodies all of which carry a certain vibration and resonance. Thus, without words, emotion, or thought, the presence, the feeling, of a Spirit can still be identified. Spirit Guides and Angels are often referred to as Beings of Light, and as such, they have a very high, elevated, lifting feeling, when one is present. Often, the presence of a guide will feel like a tingling sensation indicating simply a presence stepping close to you. Depending on the guide or angel that is visiting you, in addition to the slight tingly warmth you feel on your body, you’ll also pick up a unique ‘fingerprint’ of this being. For example you might also get a sense of protected and safeness. Or such as fairies and other elemental spirits like sprites that tend to be very playful and childlike. This will become familiar to you over time just the same way that specific friends have different energy that you can recognize.
Spirit guides are not the same things as ghosts (earthbound souls). What we refer to as ghosts are confused and often times, they don’t even know that they are dead. They continue to wander around in a type of purgatory because they don’t know how to cross over. Often it’s the devastating emotional circumstances that surround their death that keep them stuck. True spirit guides respect you and your right to choose your own path. Real spirit guides are wise, compassionate and often amusing. If you are ever aware of a spiritual being who does not respect you and others, it is not your spirit guide. Tell any less evolved beings to leave and call in your real spirit guide. You can simply ask, are you my true spirit guide.
Spirit guides are souls with the intention of offering support and guidance on the spiritual path to those who have chosen to experience life in the physical realm. Whenever a soul incarnates into a physical body there is a great amount of insight lost about who that being truly is. Your spirit guides can keep you tuned into your souls divine plan because they never lose sight of the path. In fact they can often see many things that are approaching before they happen. They will always respect your free will and offer you guidance based on the direction that your life choices have taken you in. They can help you to recognize signs and interpret synchronicity from the universe which can indicate what choices are serving the highest good for all parties involved. If you decide any course correcting is needed they can help support the steps needed to come into alignment as well.
Whenever you engage with a spirit guides, angel, ascended master god or goddess, or the Holy Spirit realize you are touching the face of the One Most High. While it is possible for humans to go to God directly in prayer and meditation, s/he often invokes helpers to work directly with us. All beings were created to with specific gifts, talents and skills. Each being (including you) has a purpose, part of which is to help bring balance and harmony to the universe. Many people may not be able to connect to the idea of gods, goddesses and other such concepts and therefore it would be entirely appropriate to refer to this presence as Infinite Intelligence. This simply acknowledges that our own perspective is limited, yet there is a higher intelligence that is available for us to access which can lend us greater understanding and awareness at all times. You may chose to call on any force in the universe within or without that resonates with your belief systems.
How does one connect to Infinite Intelligence (spirit guidance)?
I feel like Mercury Retrograde always gets a bad rap. So I decided to share my personal feelings about how and why I love Mercury Retrograde. I have not always had this deep affinity for this specific planetary aspect. I was like so many that felt like I was perpetually being punked any time we happened to get even close to it. It was about two years ago that I started to develop my own strategies for how to make the most of this challenging relationship. I decided to make this time an opportunity to deepen in my practice of self mastery.
Firstly, I think it’s important to develop an appreciation for all challenges, as a general spiritual practice. They help us discover where we need to do more of our souls work. And although this can leave us feeling exposed and vulnerable, with a positive attitude, we can approach it as an opportunity to grow wiser. I like to consider the planets as archetypal gods and goddesses. We all have the potential to be influenced by these energies, because they exist within ourselves. Understanding archetypal God/goddess energy/types can help us discover our true nature, our innate gifts and abilities. Through observing their energies we can learn to appreciate our strengths as well as understand our areas of challenge. It has been my experience that when you perceive the planets as offering an archetypal lesson that their influences feel less static and more fluid. The collective unconscious, Jung believed, was where these archetypes exist. He suggested that these models are innate, universal and hereditary. Archetypes are unlearned and function to organize how we experience certain things.
The Planet Mercury is associated with the God Hermes/Thoth/Djehuty/Quetzalcoatl/Enoch who was associated with being the father of the Occult and Magic among many other things. This planet influences communication, the nervous system, our solar plexus chakra, self-confidence, writing, teaching and art. Mercury rules our “lower” mind, how we perceive and interpret information that we receive from our environment, and how we relay that information to others. Mercury rules over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, and negotiating formal contracts. In Vedic traditions, it is believed that Mercury is the son of the Moon. Mercury is also the God of travelers, in charge of transporting souls after death to the Underworld.
Mercury is known as the trickster, the magus, the prince of thieves. In Native Mythology, the trickster, often associated with coyote animal medicine, is celebrated in a vast number of oral tales. He was typically portrayed as a demiurge (independent creative force) and a maker of fateful decisions. The trickster deity breaks the rules of the gods or nature but with ultimately positive effects. In many cultures, the trickster and the hero are often combined. For example, Prometheus, in Greek mythology, stole fire from the gods to give it to humans. All of these dynamics play a role in my appreciation for my own inner Mercury archetype.
What does it mean when a planet is retrograding? We often believe that the planet that is retrograding is moving backwards. In actuality this is an optical illusion which is created based upon our perception. Therein lies the lesson. When engaging with the energies of a retrograding planet always keep in mind that it’s an opportunity to check our own perception. Our minds are what translate our experiences and give them meaning. What the universe offers to us is in fact neutral however we judge it as positive or negative based on our beliefs. Truly with any experience what we perceive as happening is based on the vibration of beliefs we are offering. Mercury retrograde offers us the opportunity to examine more closely areas in our life where we can still get easily hooked or triggered. It does seem to do this by creating opportunities that push our buttons but again with the practice of mindfulness we can approach these experiences with more light heartedness and humor. We live in an infinite multiverse of parallel realities. It is becoming more evident that we have the choice within each present moment to shift into one of infinite realities. We do this be deliberately offering our most preferred vibration. This is often referred to as the path of least resistance. This path takes practice to align with. Mercury retrograde offers us ample opportunity to examine what vibration we are perpetually offering.
So here are some of my favorite tips for self-mastery during Mercury retrograde.
1. Challenge: Mercury rules our “lower” mind, how we perceive and interpret information and how we relay that information to others. Communication wires tend to get crossed and meaning tends to get confusing during this time.
The Practice: Cool your temper. Take a few minutes before responding to someone. Especially with loved ones. Ask more questions. If you know that communication may be challenged take a step back and examine if you are projecting your limited beliefs onto someone else. Take the time to meet face to face for serious conversations. Even laugh and say, I know mercury is retrograding, let me make sure I understood you correctly, is this what you mean? Check in for more clarity.
2. Challenge: Mercury rules technology, computers and gadgets tends to go haywire.
The Practice: Earthing. Take a break from technology. So many of us, self included, are too attached to our phones and devices anyway. Take some time to go back into nature and disconnect from all of the over stimulation of our heavy technology focused lives. Walk with bare feet on the earth as often as possible. This helps to ground any unpaired free radicals that you have picked up from the environment. In addition, it’s always wise to back up your hard drive or any important information that you have stored. I have literally washed two phones in the washing machine before during Mercury retrograde.
3. Challenge: Mercury rules over all things related to traveling. There is an increased chance of delays or missed travel arrangements.
The practice: Patience. Bring along your favorite book with you. I have learned this was a cure all for my own impatience many years ago. When I get stuck in a long line or find that I have to wait for a significant period of time, I consider that free reading time. This way my mind is focused on something that brings me joy and keeps me vibrating high rather than focused on something that makes me feel frustrated and brings my vibration low. I have found by doing this many times the delay somehow would actually magically disappear when I kept myself focused. In general it’s good to plan to give yourself extra travel time.
4. Challenge: Mercury rules over negotiating, buying and selling, formal contracts, documents.
The practice: Mindfulness. If you have to work out any type of legal or contractual agreements just pay very clear attention to details. Read all of the small print. If a delay in signing something is possible it would be best to wait.
5. Challenge: Mercury rules the nervous system. We have a tendency to become easily stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed.
The Practice: Breathe. Practice taking deep full breaths that fill your entire lungs. Practice alternate nostril breathing. Indulge in long, Epsom salt baths weekly. Bring in the use of some essential oils such as Lavender or Chamomile. Carry a piece of Fluorite or lithium quartz. Use herbs that are Nervines such as Holy Basil and Ashwhaghanda. Listen to solfeggio frequencies or connect to other forms of sound healing. Get acupuncture or a massage. Listen to your body. We all have overactive fight or flight tendencies. This is a great time to develop a strong self care regimen.
6. Challenge: People from our past have the tendency to show up during Mercury Retrograde.
Practice: Forgiveness. Many believe that Mercury retrograde is a time for past karmic debt to be balanced. This means that people from the past who we have unhealed patterns with may pop up or we may run into them unexpectedly. These can even be soul mates from past lifetimes. My experience is that when working with what we refer to ask “karmic debt” the practice for healing is always forgiveness. Once you realize that you are the creator of your experience, that everyone you encounter has been cast by you in order to fulfill your soul’s lessons, there is no longer a need to carry any type of negative charge. Practicing forgiveness releases you and others from these contracts. You can simply thank the person in your meditation for fulfilling their karmic contract with you and release the debt. Sometimes the person we need to forgive most is ourselves.
In general Mercury Retrograde should be viewed as a wonderful time for coming closer to our more authentic nature. I tend to hibernate during this time and go deeper into my meditation. As the Zen saying goes, you only find as much Zen at the top of a mountain as you have brought with you. Meaning how we perceive our experience is a product of our own creation. If we become deeply triggered, frustrated, impatience, angry, this is because this already exists within us. Mercury retrograding helps bring it to the surface in an effort to be healed. As I was writing this I went to highlight the document and accidentally(no accidents) deleted the entire thing. Instead of reacting out of fear, I took a deep breath and let me intuition provide me with the solution. Yes in general we would all likely prefer our lessons to be met with more ease. But truthfully these challenges are what create the deeper levels of healing. I have found that after a few weeks of this I am blessed with more peace, insight, resilience, and courage to face my own path. Every time.
The general practice for all of Mercury Retrograde is, go with the flow. Most of what we perceive as reality is truly an illusion. Try to seek the deeper meaning in it all.
Namaste, Peace, and So much love.
